A Sweet “Snug as a Bug” Nursery and a Whole-Family Moment


There is something incredibly special about welcoming a new baby at home, especially when that home is already full of love, personality, and a few furry family members too. This in-home lifestyle newborn photography session in Richmond, Virginia was one of those sessions that reminds me exactly why I love being a newborn photographer.

From the moment I walked in, it was clear this family had been waiting for baby sister with so much anticipation. Big brother was beaming with pride, eager to show off his new role, and their sweet dog and curious cat made it even more obvious that this baby girl was already surrounded by love on all sides.


One of my favorite parts of this session was baby girl’s nursery. Mom poured her heart and creativity into every single detail, and it showed. The theme—“Snug as a Bug”—was playful, cozy, and perfectly suited for a newborn space. She even refinished the dresser herself and added the most adorable insect-shaped knobs, a small detail that made a big impression. It’s always so meaningful to document a nursery that was lovingly created just for a new baby.

During the session, we focused on capturing the things that matter most in these early days:

  • Tiny newborn details
  • Sweet snuggles with mom and dad
  • Big brother soaking up attention and cuddling his baby sister
  • And yes—a photo of everyone together, including big brother, baby sister, mom, dad, and both furry siblings

Those full-family images are never guaranteed, especially with pets involved, which made it all the more special when everything came together so beautifully.


As a Richmond Virginia newborn photographer, I love in-home lifestyle sessions because they tell a family’s story exactly as it is in this season: natural, relaxed, and full of connection. This family was such a joy to be around, and you could truly feel how excited big brother was to have a baby sister of his own.


These are the moments that pass quickly but mean everything later. I’m so honored to help families preserve them.
