Just a few weeks before their wedding day, they reached out to me to see if I might be available to photograph their small elopement in Chesterfield, VA. They weren’t planning a big event—just a sweet, simple ceremony to celebrate their commitment and honor the day with heartfelt images. What they didn’t know? Their date was the weekend before I was scheduled to return from maternity leave after having my third baby—and I couldn’t imagine a better way to step back into the work I love.
Returning to Work—with a Camera and a Full Heart
Photographing this Chesterfield elopement was my first session back post-baby. And here’s the beautiful twist: the bride had also just had a baby. There we were—two moms, both a little sleep-deprived, both showing up to honor a sacred and joyful beginning.
Even though it was February in Virginia (hello, no blooms or warm light), this day was still absolutely beautiful. The couple was down-to-earth, sweet, and so clearly in love—and with just a little creativity and a lot of heart, we made magic.
