Maternity session at Libby Hill park | richmond, va

There’s something special about Libby Hill Park in the evening—but this session had its own unforgettable twist. We met later in the day with the hope of catching that golden hour glow… but instead, we got an overcast sky, a storm rolling in, and thick summer humidity that had us all melting by the end.

And yet—this session was still magic.

Thasin and CJ showed up with joy in their hearts and the cutest detail: a faux newspaper they designed themselves to announce their pregnancy. It was creative, personal, and such a fun way to mark this milestone. It made me wish every couple could bring something like that!

As a family photographer in Richmond, VA, it’s sessions like this that remind me—it’s not about the weather. It’s about the people, their connection, and the story they’re stepping into.

Why Libby Hill Works in Any Weather

Even without sunshine, Libby Hill still gave us charm. That view of the city skyline, the quiet paths, the soft light diffused by clouds—it was actually perfect in its own way.

We dodged the worst of the storm, captured genuine moments of joy, and made something beautiful out of it all (which, honestly, feels pretty on-brand for parenthood, right?).

Maternity Photos Aren’t Just for Instagram

When life is busy and the weather is sticky, it’s easy to think, “Do I really need maternity photos?” But here’s the truth: You will never be in this exact season again. This baby and this version of you, the waiting together--just the two of you, there's no other stage of parenthood like it and it's so worth remembering.

And even if the skies are gray and you’re glowing from sweat instead of pregnancy—there’s beauty here and you deserve to see that.
